"Air Traffic Control Computer Blinks"
By Stephen McFarland
Pg. 38
Main Issue
- Case study of software failure
Abstract
A software failure in air traffic control computers forced officials to use a backup system. The computers, installed in the 60s, have had many mishaps over the years. "It is almost to the point of being chronic in New York," said Dick Swauger, national technology coordinator for the National Air Traffic Controllers Association. "You wouldn't keep a car that ran like that."
