About

YCore is a new model of millennial volunteering which empowers passionate young people to affect social change in their local communities.

Our mission is to create a network of engaged young philanthropists.

The Problem

Many young people volunteer in high school and college but stop doing so when they start their careers. The pressure of balancing work life and social life makes it hard to give back in a meaningful way. YCore is changing this!

Our Solution

YCore is a philanthropy program created for millennials, by millennials. Our program makes it engaging and rewarding for Millennials to give back in a way that creates real change in their local communities

YCore brings together amazing young people with a wide-range of skills and interests to design products and services in partnership with local nonprofits. Alongside our nonprofit work, YCore members gain access to a network of experienced social activists who help them to develop the skills and knowledge needed to be effective philanthropists.

The YCore Program

YCore is a six-month program beginning in January. Fellows commit 3 hrs/week to YCore in the form of a monthly fellows workshop, weekly team phone calls and individual project work. YCore hosts voluntary socials throughout the year to create a close-knit community among fellows.

Our program is based on four core competencies that ensure every experience is engaging for our members and highly impactful for our partner nonprofits.

Real Impact

We maximize the impact of our projects by matching skill sets with opportunities and measuring our performance.

Skill Development

Our structured curriculum leverages experts and hands-on experience to create learning opportunities.

Accessible

We know young professionals have limited time and value efficiency, so our program is created to complement a busy work schedule.

Social Network

Through our social events and alumni network, we are creating a community of like-minded peers that support and challenge each other to give back.

Projects

The Art of Yoga Project (AYP) is a leader in revolutionizing the rehabilitation of girls by offering trauma-informed, strength-based, gender-responsive services. Their mission is to lead teenage girls in the California juvenile justice system toward accountability to self, others, and community by providing practical tools to affect behavioral change. AYP is looking to scale its program out of the Bay Area by creating an online education training program for future instructors. YCore will be working with AYP to develop a platform to enable AYP to scale their model and be a nationally recognized method for the effective treatment of at-risk teen girls.

Ableworks is a nonprofit whose mission is to equip individuals with financial education, life skills and assets that enable them to live free from oppression and poverty. Ableworks currently offers a financial literacy program for high school students and a comprehensive financial training and life skills program for cohorts of women ages 18-30. It is looking to develop a program to get job-ready, low-income women into stable, white-collar jobs in the Silicon Valley. YCore will be working with Ableworks to design and build the program so that it is ready to launch in Fall 2015.

PVF is committed to creating sustainable solutions to some of society’s most pressing social issues. In June 2014, PVF invited 50 of the Bay Area’s most creative and influential individuals to gather for an Invention Circle in which they brainstormed a solution for those left behind by the areas growing inequality gap. The outcome was a contract packing service which packages food and products for the emerging maker, craft, food and artisanal companies of San Francisco. The employees of the co-packing venture will be those in our communities left behind by the inequality gap. YCore will be working with PVF and its Invention Circle partners Not For Sale and Just Business to develop a viable business plan and prepare the venture to secure funding by June 2015.
