Research

I am drawn to simple things, want to understand things deeply, and like to build useful systems. I am interested in:

  1. What new possibilities do foundation models unlock? Can we simulate societies or solve hard ML problems?
  2. How do we build foundation models from first principles? How do we weight multiple datasets? How do we grapple with copyright and fair use? How do we attribute model predictions back to training data?

I am also a strong proponent of efficient and reproducible research. We have been developing CodaLab Worksheets, a platform that allows researchers to run and manage their experiments by maintaining the full provenance of an experiment from raw data to final results. Our papers are on CodaLab as executable papers.

Here is some code for older projects.
