The Social Psychology of War

On a social level, psychologists use the principles of Social and Cultural Psychology.

The 2 main questions of this research are:

how perceptions of military significance can be deliberately distorted
how psychological characteristics of certain groups (ethnic, political, etc) can be exploited

Social psychology researchers study the following interpersonal dynamics in the military:

manipulation of relationships between soldiers- rank, discipline, concepts of bravery

"paramilitary issues:" counter-insurgence, motivations behind guerrilla warfare

significance of effective communication

use of cultural symbols that are of value to the individual
