Stanley has been moved to an exhibit at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American
History in Washington, DC until September 4, 2006. Stanley is part of an exhibit showcasing
the future of automated highways and smart cars.

The Stanford Racing Team, fresh of their victory at the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge, has announced
it will compete in the 2007 urban
version of the race. Since the previous race, the team has been working on an autonomous car
capable of freeway driving from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

Today Stanley and the Stanford Racing Team were awarded 2 million dollars for being the first team
to complete the 132 mile DARPA Grand Challenge course. Stanley finished in just under 6 hours 54
minutes and averaged over 19 miles per hours on the course.

The Perfect Robot: Dubbed "brilliant" by CNN, Stanley emerged as the
only collision-free robot at the National Qualifying Event. After
Stanley's fourth qualification run, DARPA selected Stanley and nine
other robots as finalist. The team is ecstatic about Stanley's
performance and looks forward to Race Day on October 8.

A first test in the Mojave Desert along the original 2004 DARPA Grand Challenge Course
led to a number of positive results, and a catalogue of open technical issues that will
be tackled in the months to come.
