(Signs like this were first installed in 1975,
at the suggestion of naturalist Chris Nelson, during the rainy season
when newts and other salamanders are particularly at risk;
but they were regularly stolen. Therefore they've been replaced
by more generic signs like C00 since about 1990.

kindly supplied by Denise Defreese, the Supervisor of Briones Regional Park.)
