Managing Your Account Status

There are several ways to change the status of your account. These status changes include available, away, idle, invisible, and offline. Additionally, certain status states may be linked to a message that is viewable by other users (i.e. away messages).

Changing Your Status for All Accounts

  1. Open the Status menu.
  2. Select a status option (i.e. Available, Away, Invisible, or Offline) from the top half of the status menu.
  • Additionally, you may set your status in the Adium Dock menu or in the Status Bubble located on top of the Contact List.
  • Note: You may set a custom Available or Away message by clicking the respective Custom... menu item.

Changing Your Status for Individual Accounts

  1. Open the Status menu.
  2. Open the menu for your desired account (found in the bottom half of the Status menu.)
  3. Select your desired status option (i.e. Available, Away, Invisible, or Offline).

Setting an Available Message

AIM, Jabber, Sametime, and Yahoo allow you to set a status message without being away which we call an Available message.

  1. Select Custom... underneath "Available" from either the Status menu, the Dock menu, or from the Status Bubble in the Contact List.

Setting an Away Message

AIM, ICQ, Jabber, Sametime, and Yahoo allow you to set a status message while away.

  1. Select Custom... underneath "Away" from either the Status menu, the Dock menu, or from the Status Bubble in the Contact List.

Auto-reply Messages

Any status can have an "auto reply" that is sent in response to the first incoming message you receive from a contact. By default, Custom Away messages have an auto-reply and other statuses do not. This can be controlled in the Custom Status dialogue box by toggling the Auto-reply checkbox. Unless you specify otherwise, the autoreply is the same as your Status Message.

  • Note: AIM, ICQ, and Jabber contacts will be informed that the message is an auto-reply; for contacts on other services, your status message will be sent as a normal message (due to limitations of the services).
