Subject GRE

 


 

    Το Subject GRE είναι ένα test το οποίο εξετάζει την ικανότητα του υποψηφίου στον κλάδο του. Στον δικό μας κλάδο υπάρχει το Subject GRE in Computer Science. Είναι ένα αρκετά δύσκολο test στο οποίο πρέπει να έχετε κάνει καλή επανάληψη των θεωρητικών μαθημάτων της σχολής γιατί οι ερωτήσεις που πέφτουνε είναι μέσα από το χώρο των υπολογιστών. Κάποιες από τις ερωτήσεις multiple choice που πέφτουνε έχουνε σχέση με τα μαθήματα Θεωρία πολυπλοκότητας, Θεωρία υπολογισμού, Αρχιτεκτονική υπολογιστών, Δυαδικό σύστημα, Δομές δεδομένων κλπ.

 

    Το συγκεκριμένο test δεν χρειάζεται συνήθως όταν κάνετε αίτηση για Master, εκτός και αν το αναφέρει ρητά στο site του πανεπιστημίου. Ωστόσο, όταν κάνετε αίτηση για διδακτορικό τις περισσότερες φορές σας ζητάνε να τους στείλετε τη βαθμολογία και γι' αυτό το test. Ιδιαίτερα στα TOP πανεπιστήμια θεωρείται πολύ σημαντικό να έχετε πάρει καλό βαθμό σε αυτό το test.

 

    Εγώ προσωπικά δεν έχω δώσει το συγκεκριμένο test, οπότε δεν ξέρω να αναφέρω περισσότερες λεπτομέρειες, παρ' όλα αυτά μπορείτε να κατεβάσετε ένα sample test από τη σελίδα του Subject GRE για να δείτε περίπου τι ερωτήσεις πέφτουνε. Ακόμη, αν ψάξετε στο www.amazon.co.uk θα βρείτε τα καλύτερα βιβλία ώστε να προετοιμαστείτε κατάλληλα.

 

    Ακολουθούν οι κατηγορίες των ερωτήσεων που είναι πιθανόν να πέσουν, όπως περιγράφονται στο επίσημο Manual του Subject GRE για Computer Science, που θα βρείτε και στο site του test.

 

Content of the Computer Science Subject Test

The test consists of about 70 multiple-choice questions, some of which are grouped in sets and based on such materials as diagrams, graphs, and program fragments. The approximate distribution of questions in each edition of the test according to content categories is indicated by the following outline. The  percentages given are approximate; actual percentages will vary slightly from one edition of the test to another.

IV. MATHEMATICAL BACKGROUND (15%)

A. Discrete structures

1. Mathematical logic

2. Elementary combinatorics, including graph theory and counting arguments

3. Elementary discrete mathematics, including number theory, discrete probability, recurrence relations

B. Numerical mathematics

1. Computer arithmetic, including number representations, roundoff errors, overflow and underflow

V. OTHER TOPICS (5%)

Topics including modeling and simulation, information retrieval, artificial intelligence, computer graphics, data communications, databases, VLSI, logic programming.
