Extensive interconnectedness is a phenomenon that was given birth by the spread of Internet usage. According to the Miniwatts Marketing Group, today it is estimated that over 1,114 million people are online worldwide. This extensive interconnectedness between Internet users has also given way to virtual communities where people remain anonymous, such as: chats, forums, online gaming, and many others. Some of these communities have dedicated themselves to cracking the security measures used by different systems. The aim of this website is to analyze two cases in particular, where communities have combined efforts to crack security devices: the Microsoft Xbox and the Toshiba-NEC HD-DVD.
