• Users do not always know details of domain naming conventions
• Users do not always know exact name of any given company's site, especially since sometimes site name is not identical to company name
• Some parties take advantage of this to draw users who make mistakes
• Examples:
  • www.altavista.com and altavista.digital.com
  • www.internic.com and www.internic.net
  • www.whitehouse.com and www.whitehouse.gov
  • Numerous other porn sites instead of search engines
