Jim Clark's Profile
Jim Clark
Jim Clark has been involved in Silicon Valley for many years. The founder of both Silicon Graphics and Netscape, Dr. Clark received a doctorate in physics at the University of Utah in 1974. Between 1978 and 1981, Dr. Clark served as an Associate Professor at Stanford University. While at Stanford, Clark built a geometry engine that enables a computer to display realistic three-dimensional graphics. Clark patented this in 1981 and soon after left Stanford and founded Silicon Graphics to commercialize his idea of creating inexpensive high-quality desktop graphics. By 1993, Clark had made millions at SGI and was ready to move on. When he heard about the web-browser project going on at NCSA, Clark made contact with Andreesen and the two co-founded Netscape in 1994. Once Jim Barksdale took over the day-to-day operations of Netscape, Dr. Clark shifted his focus to new start-ups, including Healtheon and very recently, MyCFO.
