Introduction

The importance of computer security is becoming more widely known throughout the Stanford campus after the MS Blaster and Gaobot worms in the last academic year.

However, as evident from the large number of campus computer users affected by these internet worms, many students, faculty and staff still do not realize how important it is to take preventive measures to keep their computers free from virus and hacker attacks. We hope that this site will give you a sense of the severity and complexity of the computer security problem at Stanford, as well as inspire you to think how you can contribute to the solution, either as a computer user, a system administrator or as an educator.
