You are a fifteen year old boy in the booming economy of China. Back in the 1990s, the Chinese government elected to make the Internet conform to "good socialist standards." Unable to impose their ideology on the world, they broke ChinaNet off from the global networks, only allowing very narrow, expensive, and heavily monitored channels of traffic through from the outside.
You have been raised by your mother who is an ex-nun. All the boys in your school are talking about sex. Who they slept with, how they slept with them, and many other subjects regarding sex that teenage boys talk about. The conversation comes in your direction and you try to avoid it because you know absolutely nothing about sex. Barely, getting out of the question, you know that tomorrow you will not be so lucky. You race home and jump on the internet. You know that there aren't any sex books, sex TV shows that come on, so you hope that you can find information on the Net. You look up sex.com, but nothing comes up. You try it again but still nothing comes up. You try to link to the US, hearing rumors that everyone knows about sex in America, but still nothing come through.
When you arrive at school the next day you ask a teacher as to why you could not find anything on the internet about sex. She tells you about the restricted borders that your country has when it comes to information the net. You foresee the humiliation that you are going to feel when you friends ask you about sex and you don't know. The only option you see is to try and cut school. Your effort fails when a teacher prevents you from leaving. The lunch bell rings and you are faced with all of your friends talking about sex. Someone throws a question at you about sex, and you respond by telling them that you do not know anything about sex. The laughter starts out small then builds to what seems to be roaring. Everyone pointing, laughing, pointing, and laughing until you feel the tears form. Your friends seeing this seem to feed off of it, and laugh even harder. You are mentally crushed, never to come out the house again. All this because of your country's strict internet borders. If only...
