Application of Target Seeking Motion Planning Algorithms

This work involves the application of an advanced motion planning technology. The planner computes paths for digital actors in a virtual environment in which the task of the digital actors is to coordinate among themselves to eventually find any moving targets in the environment. Some applications include 3D virtual world entertainment or simulation. The following MPEG movies are screen-captured from Motion Factory's Motivate software running our target seeking motion planning algorithms.

This example can be solved by a single digital actor with omni-directional vision. The digital actor simulates 360-degree vision by turning its head from left to right while executing its locomotion path. [ MPEG movie (2.0 MB) ]

This example requires two digital actors to solve. The actors are assumed to have omni-directional vision in this example. [ MPEG movie (6.9 MB) ]

This example requires two digital actors to clear. The actors are assumed to have a 1D beam of vision. Any target is detected when it crosses the digital actors' beam of vision. [ MPEG movie (2.2 MB) ]
