Abstract: In this event, representatives from different parts of Uber will discuss the company culture, what it is like to be an Uber engineer and intern, and advice for students wishing to land at the company in the future. After a highlight of Uber’s diversity, equity, and inclusion commitments and practices, an Uber engineer will present a tech talk on her work, followed by a panel of recent Uber interns from Stanford discussing their experiences and an overview of the company’s internships and new grad roles.

Bio: Diane Krieman - Director, Strategic Initiatives: Diane is the Director of D&I Strategic Initiatives at Uber and is also a D&I Business Partner for the Global Mobility Organization.  Diane’s passion is to promote and create sustainable diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies to drive employee engagement and business results. She has close to 30 years of talent management and organization development experience including 15+ years focused on Diversity and Inclusion.

Milan Staples, D&I Program Manager: Milan Staples is a D&I Program Manager at Uber managing programs including, but not limited to, Sponsorship, Intercultural Development Inventory, and Supplier Diversity. She enjoys the work of D&I is because it sparks becoming an agent for self-awareness, curiosity, finding our commonalities, and releasing judgment of our differences to embody equity and inclusion to our employees and the customers and communities that we serve. 


Erin Gallagher, Software Engineer II: Erin is a founding engineering member of the Uber Eats Ads team where she does both iOS and Backend development. Previously at Uber, Erin led the development and launch of Uber Grocery on iOS and placed the first order in Toronto. In 2019, Erin was named one of Betakit's top 30 under 30 developers in Canada. She holds a Bachelor’s of Computing, specializing in Software Design from Queen’s University.


Juan Marcano, Sr. Software Engineer: Juan is a ML Software Engineer at Uber. He has worked in Machine Learning for Drones, Robotics, VR, and lately, for software testing. He enjoys playing tennis (though he is not good at it), hiking, and reading.


Joshua Shongwe, Intern:


AJ Rossman, Intern: AJ is a senior from Bellevue, WA studying computer science with a focus in artificial intelligence. Outside of his studies, he’s usually either in the pool (he’s on the men's water polo team) or hanging out with friends. This past summer, he had the great pleasure of being a software engineer intern at Uber. He was a member of the Eats Matching team which deals with optimizing the UberEats process of matching customers, couriers, and restaurants together. He says it is a very interesting problem of trying to balance profitability, supply, and customer happiness!


Beri Kohen Behar, Intern: Beri is a senior at Stanford University from Istanbul, Turkey. He is majoring in Mathematical and Computational Science and minoring in History, and started my co-term in Data Science this quarter. Before working at Uber, he worked on data science and renewable energy related projects with research groups at Stanford and at a start-up. This summer, he worked in the Rider Pricing & Incentives team at Uber as a software engineer intern. He worked on projects involving the backend of rider promotions, and machine learning for rider pricing. 


Kasey Stricklin, Sr. University Recruiter : Kasey is a Senior University Recruiter on Uber’s University Talent Acquisition Team based in Dallas, TX. Prior to joining Uber in June 2021, Kasey led campus recruiting efforts and the Diversity and Inclusion Campus Engagement Initiative at CNA, a federally-funded research and development center based in Arlington, VA.
