WHAT WERE THE GUIDELINES FOR THE RESEARCH?|
The following was the final abstract proposed for the information contained in the site:
The project analyzes the economics of access to the Internet. We will first examine the usage and accessibiliy of the Internet through its history, starting from its academic and military roots in the late 1960s through its dramatic boom in the 1990s. We will also track the demographics of who is using the Internet, focusing on the differences in usage among socio-economic classes. The project will give an overview of the current methods by which the general population accesses the internet, including commercial ISPs, schools, and libraries. We will also consider possible Internet access methods that might be available in the near future. In addition, our study will include a comparison of the commercialization of the Internet to the commercialization of television, radio, and print. The project will also compare the Internet industry to the telephone industry. Finally, we will examine the issue of governmental regulations or subsidies in regard to Internet access.
