Q: How hard is it to get a CA-ship?

CA-ships are very competitive. Ph.D. students get priority for CA-ships. MS students only get CA-ships when there are no qualified Ph.D. students available. Therefore it is rare for an MS student to get a CA-ship. To increase your chances of getting one, you should excel in the courses that you take at Stanford, and if possible get to know the professor of the course you want to CA. If a prof wants you to be his/her CA, it might improve your chances. But priority is still given to Ph.D. students.
